My Work

The primary focus of my work is to empower people to live lives that express their highest values, support their health and well-being, and promote inner peace.

What I offer comes from what I’ve learned in over 45 years of practice as a professional organizer and a lifetime as a seeker of well-being. It includes an inquiry into what you deeply desire in your life, and ways to build a structure to support you to bring that into form.

What does that mean? It means you can spend more time on the things that matter, and less time on the things that don’t.

It means that you can experience stability as you work to transform your life into one of meaning, satisfaction, and joy while living in this world of constant distraction, seduction, and change.

It means you can pay the bills, get the dog to the vet, and  have time for your creative work and the things that make your heart sing.

My Philosophy

Here are a few of the things I have learned over the years I have worked with clients.

  • If people are given encouragement, tools and techniques, and permission to be their best selves, they respond with energy, enthusiasm, and hope.
  • Well-designed systems and structure provide direction, stability, and support through our ongoing day-to-day internal and external changes.
  • Being clear about our values, priorities, and intentions, creates a defined and detailed channel for the delivery to us of appropriate support. (The Universal Procurement and Dispatch Department is a busy place and works most efficiently when given clear instructions and requests.)
  • Beauty heals. Generosity elicits generosity. And kindness — for ourselves and others — promotes the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of each of us, and ultimately the well-being of the planet.

My Background & Experience

In March of 1978, a friend came to see me asking for help. She had invested some money in her friend’s project and now had to document the loss she sustained for her tax return. She had three cardboard boxes full of legal documents, bank statements, expense receipts, correspondence, and miscellaneous notes on tiny bits of paper. We spent several days sorting and organizing, creating files, a general ledger, and a financial statement for her accountant. When we were finished, she was delighted, the accountant was relieved, and the IRS was satisfied.

At the time, I was looking for a new business to develop. Within the next few days, I realized that this work was something I already knew how to do, it was something people needed, and it was right livelihood.

Now, over 45 years later, the Organizing Profession has spread around the world, become the subject of network television, and helped untold numbers of people improve the quality of their lives.

I have had the pleasure of working with a broad range of clients, including corporate executives and homemakers, educators and investors, artists and entrepreneurs, philanthropists, medical professionals, environmentalists, and social service agencies.

My previous experience included small business and office management, coordination of large events and projects, workspace design, writing, editing, and bookkeeping.

In 1989 I joined the newly formed National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO), served on their National Ethics Task Force, and, from 1990 to 1992, was president of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. Over the years I have mentored new members, and presented workshops and seminars for organizers at local, regional, and national NAPO conferences.

And if you have read this far, you get 10 gold stars for perseverance!
